The ideals and traditions of the Democratic Party have
inspired me my entire life. I grew up in a working class neighborhood on
the south side of St. Louis. My father, a milk truck driver, taught me the
value of hard work. My mother instilled in me a lifelong appreciation for
the value of community and of caring about the needs and aspirations of
others.
I look forward to challenging President Bush and offering a distinctive
choice and different direction for our domestic, economic and national
security policies — a difference that will lead to a safer, more secure
and more prosperous future for all Americans.
On nearly every issue of importance to our country — national security,
the economy, health care, education, the environment, and more — the Bush
Administration is either leading us down the wrong path, or not leading us
at all. At this pivotal time in history, failing leadership is something
we just can't afford.
These are uncertain times and there are many uncertainties in life. But of
this we can be certain: New ideas grounded in traditional Democratic
principles can give new life to our Party and new hope for regaining the
Presidency of the United States.
Sincerely,

Dick Gephardt
